Large Family Car–What do you have?

This blog post is not crafty related but personal…excuse the interruption but I need some opinions.

Looks like my family is at a crossroad and needs to start really thinking about a larger car for a 5 member family. Currently, I drive a Ford Explorer and it is FALLING APART!  Ugh!

I will be honest here, I am 33 years old, a mom to 3 adorable kids, but I am having trouble getting on board the whole minivan thing.  Although my husband (probably because he doesn’t have to drive it) is 100% on board and ready to buy me a minivan tomorrow. Am I weird that I am not ready to buy a minivan?  I mean, I LOVE this stage of my life with 3 young kids and I want them to be comfortable, but I am having a little complex about buying a minivan.  Don’t judge me, please.

It got me thinking there are lots of blogger moms out there with 3+ kids out there.  What do you drive?  Do you love it?  Tell me your thought!! My ears and mind are open…

I'm not a mom but I am the oldest of three, so I know the challenges of finding a car that fits a family of five, as well as the occasional friend. My mom drives a ford explorer with the third row so she has extra room for a friend should one be accompanying us. Her's is a 2003 and it will soon be replaced with a Chevy Equinox. The Equinox feels more like a luxury car over the Explorer but offers the same room, they even have sunroofs if that's something you're interested in. Another option would be a tahoe, the tahor is bigger, but it will offer you more room, and it has DVD players in the back on the LTZ model. Can you tell I work for Chevy? I would say I'm biased but I'm not, I've always been a Ford girl, but Chevy has been stepping up their game lately. :) good luck!

My brother & sister in law just bought a new chevy tahoe and she LOVES it. She had a mini van for a few years and hated it. Id check out SUVs before vans if I was you. And then you can laugh at your husband while your driving a new SUV instead of a van! haha. Ive always told myself Im never going to be the "mini-van" kind of mom... just not my style. But to each their own! G'luck.

My husband was the same way! So when baby #2 arrived we traded in our Escape and got a minivan. We couldn't find a Ford minivan that we liked so we settled with a Kia Sedona. Nice van but my husband ended up hating it so we just recently traded it in on a Ford Expedition. I absolutely LOVE it! It has the same room with the 3rd row seating, if not more than the mini, it sits up higher and has 4WD. The only downfall is the gas mileage but as a SAHM, I don't have a daily commute. Good luck in search.

We are also a family of 5 and just got rid of our suv that was falling apart. We just bought a VW Routan and we absolutely love it. It is really sporty and has ton of room, even when traveling.

We just brought baby3 home yesterday and were fortunate enough to not need to upgrade (although it was a hope of mine!) I have a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and it fits our 3 car seats comfortably (none of which are the narrow base models.) I love the way it feels roomy without being a mommyvan.

Hello! I'm a newbie to your blog; love it:) I'm a mother of two & own an Audi Q7. German engineering is the best! This vehicle accommodates my husband, my 2 kids, myself, mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law & my 18 month old nephew when we all go out together. It has a third row which is great & all the Audi's I've owned have never given me a problem. If you think this SUV is too big; there is also the baby to this called the Audi Q5 (smaller version of the Q7). I truly recommend this vehicle as my husband who is an Electrical Engineer has work for Audi & Aston Martin.Truly a Quality vehicle with ample space for a growing family!

I am totally with you on the minivan! I just can't do it, either. Last September I got a Kia Sorento. Absolutely LOVE IT! We have 3 boys, it seats everyone comfortably and has a 3rd row when we need it. We we aren't using the 3rd row, we have a ton of space in the back. It gets great gas mileage, too. They have been completely redesigned and I love the look of them. Good luck on the decision making!

We got one after we had our first child! I was totally not into it and my husband dragged me across the state looking at vans. Finally, one salesman commented that I could fit all kinds of furniture into it and a lightbulb went off! I could pick up streetside finds or goodwill treasures without relying on my husband to pick it up! We bought that van and I absolutely loved it!
